Title: Senior Software Engineer – ASW/USW
Location: Washington, DC metro area (Alexandria, VA and Bethesda, MD) / Central Virginia (Madison, VA)

ARiA has a position available for a senior-level software engineer with expertise in areas including acoustic signal processing, parallel processing, service-oriented architectures, real-time data analysis systems, simulation, and visualization.
Working in coordination with a diverse team of antisubmarine warfare (ASW) analysts, scientists, DevOps/DevSecOps engineers, software engineers, systems engineers, and subject-matter experts, this role will support development of training and tactical-decision-aid systems used throughout the US Navy supporting submarines, surface ships, surveillance sonar systems as well as a number of command and control (C2) ASW/undersea warfare (USW) systems.
Capabilities developed will include tactical display components, web services, middleware translation tools, scalable algorithms, and multiple user interfaces streamlining the display of complex environmental data with real-time updates from assorted onboard systems and sensors.
Algorithm and software design, development, and testing to support prototypes and products
Software engineering to support:
- design, prototyping, and implementation, including software configuration management, of training and tactical-decision-aids systems
Serving as a lead for the software-development team by setting direction as well as mentoring and supporting the work of more junior colleagues
Coordination with ARiA scientists and engineers in the development of algorithms and software products
Preparing documentation for customers to summarize design and status of software products
Assisting with in-field integration, testing, and support, with some US travel required

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science, or Computer Science.
Seven years of experience in some combination of design, development, and implementation of real time acoustic signal-processing algorithms, development of parallel-processing implementations, service-oriented architectures, signal-processing and real-time data-analysis systems or visualization/simulation.
Five years of experience specifically relating to submarine, surface-ship, surveillance-sonar and/or C2 systems into which ASW/USW training and tactical decision aids are integrated.
Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
A Master’s Degree from an ABET accredited educational institution in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science or Computer Science
Three years of experience with evaluation and integration of new technologies and development and maintenance of computer software
Two years of experience with NoSQL/NewSQL data stores, the Scala programming language, and Big Data processing technologies such as Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, and associated technologies
Two years of experience with visualization technologies and user-interface development, including HTML5, Cesium, and associated toolsets such as Angular and TypeScript
Two years of experience with Kubernetes, REST, Docker and containerized microservices
Two years of experience in development and pre-production testing using commercially available cloud computing service solutions such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Two years of experience contributing to software development on GitHub or other open-source repositories and extensive background in both back-end and user-facing software components
Two years of experience participating in and helping to lead day-to-day activities of a scrum team or other Agile software development team
Exceptional ability and desire to acquire new knowledge and skills to solve challenges
Ability to work independently but collaboratively
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced professional office environment
Ability to communicate technical solutions to colleagues and customers
